CLE Conducts Audit at the University of Nairobi School of Law

Earlier today, the Council of Legal Education conducted an audit at the University of Nairobi School of Law following the expiry of the institution’s Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) training licence.

Prior to the audit, the Chief Executive Officer of CLE, Prof. Jack Mwimali, paid a courtesy visit to the University of Nairobi Main Campus, where he held discussions with the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Ayub Gitau.

The audit was undertaken in line with CLE’s statutory mandate to regulate legal education and training in Kenya, including the licensing, supervision, and quality assurance of legal education providers.

The exercise was led by the Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Jack Mwimali, and the Director, Standards, Licensing, Supervision and Compliance, Ms. Annah Konuche, alongside team members from the Directorate of Standards, Licensing, Supervision and Compliance.

The University of Nairobi was represented by Prof. Winifred Kamau, Dean of the Faculty of Law, who also serves as a Council Member at CLE, Dr. Bett Jackson Kiprotich, and other members of the institution’s leadership and faculty.

The audit focused on key areas critical to the delivery of quality legal education and training, including admission requirements, CBET preparedness, curriculum implementation, staffing, infrastructure, library resources, and overall compliance with CLE regulatory standards.

Speaking during the exercise, Prof. Jack Mwimali reaffirmed CLE’s commitment to upholding the quality of legal education and training in Kenya, noting that regular audits remain essential in ensuring that institutions continue to meet the required standards for training competent and practice-ready legal professionals.

The audit forms part of CLE’s broader efforts to strengthen compliance, safeguard standards, and promote excellence in legal education and training across the country.

CLE remains committed to ensuring quality, relevance, and integrity in legal education and training in Kenya.
